Zane was born in Abilene, Tx then moved as a child to Kentucky, West Virginia, California then back to Texas as his family pursued their academic careers. Although they encouraged Zane to follow his dream of music they impressed upon him the importance of a college education. So, Zane got his 4 year degree in Mathematics from Abilene Christian University, where his fellow classmates were Aaron Watson and Mark Powell.
